I'm posing here and on this website because the ferry runs
every 20 minutes and guess who was waiting in front of us!
Hi! How are you today? Hope all is well. My name is Sean and I'm basically out here trying to enourage people. This is a crazy world we live in full of good times and hard times. If you have a moment, I'd like to share some things that I have made it through in my life.
For starters, when I was 5 years old I was diagnosed with brain cancer. I had surgery, and radiation therapy. Doctors said I wouldn't live to be 10. When I was 18, a senior in high school, I had it again. I had three more surgeries and chemo therapy. Three years ago a friend came over to visit me one day and found me in my apartment in a coma with a temperature of 106. I had a severe case of spinal meningitis. I had a couple more surgeries when that happened. The doctors said I would be a vegetable. When I got out of the hospital instead of buying a wheel chair, I bought a road bike, LOL, which I still ride. I'm 39 now and cancer free.
I had wonderful doctors, even a world renowned neurosurgeon, but I also know there has been someone watching over me throughout my life. There are things I could not have done on my own. Out of high school I ended up hanging with the wrong crowd, and got into drugs, drinking and smoking. I had been on SSI because of my disabilities, but foolishly missed my five year reevaluation meeting and I blew it. I walked into the Social Security office one month on the first of the month to pick up my check, and they said I didn't get it anymore. I didn't know what I was going to do or how I was gonna survive with no income. I walked out of that office and crawled into the bushes, and just lost it emotionally. As I sat there crying, a loud voice out of nowhere said, "Go home. Put your backpack on and go travel around and tell people about Jesus and pray for them, and I will take care of you." So I went home, put my backpack on and my faith in God, and started hitchhiking all around the country serving Him and sharing my story with people. As a child I went to church, so I knew some about God and Jesus, but I didn't really have a relationship with Him until that day.
In the California Delta ferries are part of the highway system!
Not only did I need God's forgiveness because I had messed up so badly, but I needed His power and strengthening me to overcome those addictions. My brain was programmed to think it was cool to do drugs and drink and stuff. I was even convinced I was powerless to overcome them. I couldn't break free. That day when God spoke to me my life changed completely. Not only did He give me the ability to believe in Him, but He moved into my heart, and became the main part of my life... Not only is He the Creator of heaven and earth, but He is so much more to those He rescues like myself. First of all, He is my Savior. He is also my best friend, my strength, my peace, etc., etc.
I started reading the Bible which is His Word. It was full of promises and encouragement, and guidance for my life. It spoke freedom and strength into my life. God set me free from all my addictions. We are all born without knowing God, and we have all made poor decisions in life and let Him down many times. That is why we need Jesus. The Bible says many people are called but few are chosen. Are you one of His chosen?
God had a plan and a purpose in all the things that have happened in my life. Knowing that He has gotten me through so much has not only given me great faith in Him, but He did it to prove just how awesome He is, and what He can do in our lives if we will trust Him.
If you already have a relationship with Jesus, then I'm here to tell you to stay strong and not to lose hope if you are going through a difficult time. Nothing is too big for God, as you can tell from my life. He can get us through it all.
If you don't know Jesus, then I'm here to tell you that God sent Jesus into this world to die for the sins of those who would believe in Him, and He came back to life to live in our hearts. Everyone who calls on His name will be saved. If you are feeling the desire to come to know Him as your personal Savior and Lord, then He must be touching your heart this very moment. Jesus says in the Bible in Revelation chapter 3 verse 20: "Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends." It is God's GRACE that saves us. There is nothing we can do to earn it. The Bible says that nobody is righteous.
As with the ferry, you have to decide to enter God's grace,
then the gate closes behind you, and you are on your way!
I'm glad I got to talk to you, and hope you have a great day.
